DIY: Making Your Own Hand Soap

Posted By Better Living in Organized Bath | No Comments

With many families switching to a more natural lifestyle, making your own liquid hand soap is a move keeping in line with that and it’s easier to do than you might think.

So, the soap in your soap dispenser bottle is getting pretty low and before you go out and buy some harsh, antibacterial store-made soap, you might want to read further about the positives of making your own.

The moisture factor

When you press down on your soap dispenser pump, you want to know that the soap in your soap dispenser bottle is going to be gentle and will protect your skin from drying out. Instead of reading all the ingredients on commercially made hand soap, making your own will let you control what you and your family are ultimately using on your skin. Also, homemade hand soap won’t strip your skin of its natural oils.

Benefits

There are reasons making your own soap is the best way to go:

  • Money savings by refilling;
  • Use less soap when ingredients are natural;
  • Avoid chemicals and fragrances in store-bought soap that could be harmful in the long run.

Creamy and rich hand soap recipe:

Here is a simple hand soap recipe that you and your family members will love and it’s easy to do!

What you’ll need:

  • ½ cup filtered water
  • ¼ cup castile soap
  • 2 tbsp. almond oil
  • 1 level tsp. guar gum
  • 15 drops of essential oil like lavender, lemongrass, lemon or orange (or any other scent you love)

Here’s what you’ll do:

Measure out the almond oil and place it in a small bowl. Mix in the guar gum and stir until the consistency is even. In a separate bowl, mix together the water, castile soap and essential oils. When that is all mixed, add the almond oil and guar gum mixture to it and keep stirring for about a minute. Like magic, you’ll notice the mixture will thicken up into a gel and voila – you’ve made your very own moisturizing, creamy hand soap for your soap dispenser bottle!
