Welcome to November, or should we say, Movember? The month where your guy friends show up clean-shaven on the first day, and look more like a cowboy-movie villain by the end of the Thanksgiving holiday!
For those who don’t know what Movember is, here are some quick facts:
- Movember began in Australia in 2003
- It’s a movement to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancers
- The Movember Foundation raised a total of $574 US million to date*
During the month of November, men will grow out their facial hair for 30 days. By doing that, they are changing their appearance, sparking up conversations amongst peers, and helping to grow awareness to the Movember movement. Obviously, not all men can grow out the ‘perfect moustache’, but for those who want to participate, especially women, there is a way too! Starting today, they can push their brothers, guy friends, boyfriends or husbands to grow out mustaches!
Men, in general, have a shorter average life expectancy than women. Movember aims to teach men to know what to look for, and be aware of numbers like their BMI index, cholesterol levels, weight, etc., and to begin the conversation on mental health issues. Once men know what to look for, they can then start arming themselves with the knowledge of how to become healthier and be more open to discussion amongst friends and colleagues.
