Why the freestanding bathtub trend is here to stay

Posted By Better Living in Organized Bath | 2 Comments

Freestanding bathtubs are making a comeback, and so far, it looks like they are here to stay. While built-in tubs have their advantages, namely the option to be turned into a shower and tub combo, the freestanding tub offers several benefits you’ll want to consider as well. Here are five reasons why the freestanding tub trend might make sense for your space.

1. There are more style options for your bathroom

Let’s face it: built-in showers and baths tend to all look the same. With a freestanding tub, you have more options when choosing materials, finishes and shapes, allowing for a more unique bathroom design. Plus, freestanding tubs have a sculptural style that is more aesthetically pleasing.

2. Makes your bathroom appear larger

Freestanding tubs take up less room than the shower and built-in designs, helping you design a more open space. You can even invest in a tub with legs to create more floor space and show off more of your eye-catching tiles.

3. Creates a spa-like atmosphere

Who needs a weekend getaway when you can create a soothing sanctuary right in your own home? Freestanding tubs give your bathroom a spa-like look you’ll love. After a long day, relieve stress by taking a relaxing soak in your new stylish tub.

4. Gives you the opportunity to build a more spacious shower

If you have two bathrooms, why not have a freestanding tub in one and a shower in the other? This allows you to be more creative with your shower’s design and to make it bigger as well.

5. You can place a freestanding tub just about anywhere

Thanks to its versatile design, you can place a freestanding tub near the wall, in the middle of the bathroom…basically wherever you have the space! If you place your tub next to the wall, consider attaching a shower organizer on the wall to keep your bath products conveniently nearby.

Freestanding tubs are stylish, versatile and relaxing. If you are remodeling your bathroom, consider bringing a freestanding tub into your space so you can turn your bathroom into your own personal resort.

I call this trend “tenement tubs” because they remind me of the bath tubs that were in tenements decades ago when there was a shared toilet down the hall and bathing was done in a tub in the kitchen. Today’s freestanding tubs are not needed. People have bathrooms. Freestanding tubs are dangerous to get out of. High off the ground and nothing around them to steady yourself.

I like the freestanding bathtub in the pic, but I don’t think I’d actually want one for my bathroom. They seem too much like they came from a previous generation. I prefer a tub/shower or a standalone shower setup.
